Produce Notes: May 23, 2019

While the wet weather is impacting some locally grown crops, we are looking forward to a summer rich in organic produce, and nothing says summer like a slice of juicy watermelon! It’s still pretty early in the season, but we have seeded and seedless varieties available for you at a Super Fresh Deal price!

Portabella mushrooms are in steady supply and are a great grilling option for the long weekend! Throw some local green cabbage on the grill too for a tasty, low-fuss veggie dish that is packed with flavor. Red potatoes are perfect for holiday potlucks, as are the local Persian cucumbers that have arrived to take your salads to the next level!

Local zucchini is starting to become available and straightneck squash (aka yellow zucchini) is plentiful. Corn is beginning to make an appearance, with beautiful bi-color corn available in the next week or so.

Heirloom tomatoes are plentiful, but organic tomato supplies and pricing are expected to be volatile as we enter summer; we’ll keep you posted. Celery availability has improved but is still limited.

Supply of blackberries, raspberries, and blueberries remains steady. Local strawberry and cherry production has been disrupted by the rain, but other stone fruit are coming in beautifully - apricot season just started and nectarines (both white and yellow!) are coming in sweet.
