Margaret Oakley plants, cultivates and sustains edible and native gardens, drawing from permaculture, biointensive and biodynamic growing methods. Darren Butler is a Consulting Arborist, Ecological Landscape Designer, and Landscape Consultant. He teaches and speaks frequently throughout California at conferences and events. From 2007 through 2009 he served on statewide Advisory and Steering Committees for all Master Gardener programs in California, influencing the outreach efforts of 4,500 Master Gardeners and the many California residents they serve each year. He has appeared on several episodes of "Weekend Gardening" for a large international television audience as an expert horticulturist and landscaper, on NPR radio, in newspapers, and in other national and local media. He has taught dozens of courses and workshops to thousands of students on gardening, horticulture, sustainability, permaculture, design, landscaping, irrigation, and related topics in a wide variety of venues. He works as a consultant and designer for a variety of clients from celebrities and nonprofit organizations to extraordinary everyday citizens, and volunteers hundreds of hours per year primarily to promote sustainable practices and to help low-income people grow and eat more nutritious food.
